This latest collaboration represents Marie El-Ahmar’s portrait illustrations in a knitted version reinterpreted by Michaela Buerger.
Based in London, Marie El-Ahmar is an illustrator who loves art in all shape and form and tries to reflect that in her drawings. Her variable style is dependant on her mood and subject. In the past, she studied fashion design, but soon realized she was more interested in the illustrations of the fashion designers than in the actual garments.
Now, her main focus is expressive fashion which includes sketches of women and clothing in colorful and abstract patterns. Marie works mostly with traditional inks, acrylics, watercolors and crayons and tries to avoid the use of digital tools as they take away the originality and playfulness of her work.
A shared love for art and graphic design reunited the two artists to collaborate on this latest project. Michaela saw it as as challenge to interpret Marie's unique drawings into knitwear, since this metamorphosis was expected to be meticulous - and it was.
